We, a family of 4 (wife, 2 teenage kids age 13 and 15 and myself) did the Everest panorama trekking over the Christmas and New Year’s period. As we had some more time available than what this trekking requires, we decided to add a side trip for 3 days from Namche Bazaar, which brought us to Thame, Khumjung, Phorche and Pangboche before hitting the actual target, Tengboche Monastery. The time we were there, it was low season but once we left the main Everest trail towards Thame, it even became more quieter. For us, the absolute highlights of the trip were:

– the flight to/from Lukla
– the high suspension bridge between Jorsalle and Namche
– Thame and the descend from there towards Thamo through the snow
– the Yeti remains in Khumjung and Pangboche
– Tengboche monastery
– the fantastic views towards Everest/Khumbila/Lhotse/Ama Dablam along the way
– meeting the fantastic people and Sherpa families in the Khumbu region
– meeting some individual sherpa’s that had summited Everest, Annapurna 1, Makalu and Shishapangma. It was great to hear their stories over dinner around the woodstove in the evening in some of our tea houses along the way.

Our guide was Nir and we were very happy with the way how the trek was done and Nir’s knowledge about the mountains, the wildlife, the local customs. It really shows that he is very experienced in the area. He is also father of 2 teenage children and we really liked his calm approach towards the children. I would be very happy to take him again on our next visit.

The trip organisation (end-to-end) by Chhatra was perfect without any issue whatsoever, so we are very happy customers and will be back.
