Itinerary
Trek Duration: 3-4 hours
Accommodation: Teahouse(Phakding)
Get ready, as it's time to begin the adventure. We will head towards Kathmandu Airport to catch a scenic flight to Lukla. The planes to Lukla leave early in the morning. We will enjoy 30 minutes of hills, mountains, clouds, and skies.
We will make a safe arrival at Lukla Airport, which is the gateway to the region. From here, we have to walk up to Phakding. While our team arranges everything, we will take a corner of an eatery in Lukla. Once all set to go, we will be off on the trail that goes down.
We will only walk a little on the first day of Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing. Three four hours of easy walk by woods and the Dudh Koshi River is enough for today. The walk should take at most 3-4 hours. We will gradually walk to Phakding for the night in a teahouse.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Namche Bazaar)
Our energy will get even higher as we wake up in Phakding. By having breakfast, we will join the trail. More like the first day, our walk will continue on the sides of the Dudh Koshi River. The walk will be fun due to the Himalayan suspension bridges. Across the day, five bridges dotted with colorful prayer flags will come along.
Briefly, we will reach the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park, a natural world heritage site. We will show our permits and move ahead into the deep woods. We will also get the first glimpses of Mt Everest and other peaks somewhere around here.
We will then walk further and higher to reach Namche Bazaar. The final part of the day’s trek is a bit uphill, which starts from Tenzing Hillary Suspension Bridge. The last walk would bring us to Namche Bazaar, a hill town with an amazing atmosphere. We will have a fantastic evening in the town.
But doing nothing can make it a boring day. Therefore, we will head outside of Namche Bazaar for a hike. A visit to Sagarmatha National Park’s headquarter is one option.
Likewise, we can visit a museum devoted to Mt Everest or the Everest View Hotel. Khumjung and Khunde villages visit is also an option for the day. We will tick as many as possible. After the day tour, we will retrace our teahouse for another night in Namche Bazaar. An evening stroll of Namche Bazaar’s alleys is a good way to end the day.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Tengboche)
Following breakfast, we will leave Namche and walk towards Tengboche. It is a gentle climb out of the town. We will be on the flat trekking trail on the valley side shortly. We will grab some awe-striking views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, Everest, and other Alps during this walk.
We will also cross several villages along the trail. From Sansa, the trail will decline until Phunki Thanga. The majority of the walk is via lush woods. Ahead, we will reach yet another suspension bridge over the Dudh Koshi River. The trek will head upwards from there until Tengboche for 2 hours. And finally, the famous Tengboche Monastery will welcome us with an amazing mountain panorama. We will rest at a teahouse.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Pheriche)
We now move towards Pheriche after breakfast and morning prayer in Tengboche; we will be off via the rhododendron forest. It will be a descending walk of around one and a half hours. We will have plenty of time, so we will just make it slow.
Like the last day, we will go uphill after crossing a river, Imja Khola. The ascending walk should bring us to Pangboche. Upon reaching the village, we will catch some breath while enjoying the incredible Mt Ama Dablam.
After that, we will begin again to trek via several mani walls, gompas, and distributed pine forests. The landscapes will slowly change with fewer trees around. We will reach Pheriche in the next two hours. The village will let us in with an amazing mountain panorama.
Like the previous acclimatization day, we will do an active hike to a hilltop, Nagarjuna(5,000m). As a reward, we will get a great mountain panorama of Everest, Makalu, and other peaks. Alongside, our body will accommodate the altitude. Eventually, we will return to Pheriche for sleep after the exciting hike.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Lobuche)
We shall leave Pheriche now after breakfast. It will be a short and slow hiking day. We will enjoy great views of Tawache, Cholaste, and other peaks while trekking through the wide valley.
Then we will do a steep ascend to the foothills of the Khumbu Glacier. We will stop at Duglha for lunch before trekking further on the winding walk on the glacier terminal moraine. Before Lobuche, we will also pass a memorial place for lost souls in the mountains. In this way, we will ultimately reach Lobuche.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Gorak Shep)
It is a special tour day to see Everest Base Camp. At the same time, it will be a long and demanding day. Therefore, we will begin walking early in the dawn by quickly eating breakfast. Our walk will continue by following the Khumbu Glacier. Keeping the glacier in sight and amazing mountains, we will trek gradually on terminal moraines.
We will reach Gorakshep, the last teahouse stop of the Everest Base Camp Trek. We will eat lunch there and keep our backpacks in the rooms of our teahouse for the night. Then, we will do a hike to Everest Base Camp. It is a 3-hour round hike from Gorakshep.
Walking via rugged terrain, we will reach our spot, the Everest Base Camp. We will click amazing pictures of the view and enjoy the feeling. Afterward, we will retrace Gorakhshep for the night.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Pheriche)
Early in the morning, we will hike to Kala Patthar to catch the sunrise. Kala Patthar(5,554m) offers an enchanting sunrise panorama of Mt Everest and other peaks. The hike is short but steep. We will do the hike, enjoy a great time in Kalapathar and return to Gorakshep. The 360 panorama is just breathtaking.
Then, eating our meal, we will leave Gorak Shep to descend to Dingboche. We will retrace the village, passing via Pheriche. It will be a comfortable walk as it is downhill. We will reach Dingboche in time and have a restful sleep.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Chhukung)
Now it is time to turn our focus towards Island Peak. We will begin by trekking up to Chukkang. It will begin with a steep walk from Dingboche. We will pass several traditional mountain hamlets. The walk will complete briefly in around 3-4 hours. Therefore, we will take in all the amazing views without any rush. We will eventually reach Chukkang. The village presents amazing views of Nuptse, Ama Dablam, etc. We will have a good night in Chukkang.
Accommodation: Tent(Island Peak Base Camp)
We will proceed towards Island Peak Camp now. After breakfast, we will leave for the place. We have to climb uphills and then trek via the main valley. The walk will offer mouth-opening views of waterfalls and glacier streams along the route. We will also cross Lhotse’s glacier moraine by watching Imja Khola Glacier. We will cross the 5000m mark too. Hence, without rushing, we will reach Island Peak Base Camp easily. Upon reaching there, we will do some climbing practice before we sleep.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Chhukung)
Our climb has to start early, around 1 am, because we must reach the summit before noon, before windy weather. Thus, we will begin by climbing steep uphills and then cross boulders. Slowly the path will become narrower, steeper, and rocky. We will follow the ridgeline carefully to an exposed boulder and then to a glacier’s top.
Using the fixed ropes and ladders at places and following our guide's instructions, we will reach the summit of Island Peak. Two crevasses were recently formed before the summit. We will cross them and kiss the summit. The apex provides amazing sights of mountains and horizons. We will celebrate the feat and enjoy the grand view. After that, we will slowly return to Island Peak Base Camp and Chhukung. It is possible to reach Chhukung straight from the summit for the night.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Tengboche)
After Island Peak and Chhukung, we will trek to Tengboche via Pangboche. It will be mostly downhill. We gently ascend via Debuche before the descent to Tengboche. The trek is short and easy. We will take time to reach Tengboche to grasp all the beauty. Our day will complete in Tengboche, right by the Tengboche Monastery, at a teahouse.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Namche Bazaar)
Now, we will walk to Namche Bazaar. First, we will descend from Tengboche to the Dudh Koshi River. Later, we will climb uphill via woods to the flat trail on the sides of the valley. Watching the impressive mountains, we will reach Namche Bazaar pretty easily. Upon reaching there, we will have a good time around the vibrant alleys of the town. Overnight in Namche Bazaar.
Accommodation: Teahouse(Lukla)
Now, we should leave Namche Bazaar and be off to Lukla. Immersing in the amazing ambiance of the town, we will begin our walk after breakfast. The path will descend from the town to the Hillary Suspension Bridge.
Then, we will follow the Dudh Koshi River to reach Lukla. We will retrace the trail we walked on the first and second days of the trip. Ultimately, we will reach Lukla and finish the walking part of the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing. We celebrate it and sleep.
Like the last time, we will see some amazing window views from the plane. Landing in Kathmandu, we will drive to our hotels and complete the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing. A good rest will be needed.

You should learn to use climbing gear on snowy and mountain terrains. That will make you used to using ropes, crampons, ascenders, and similar gears.
Likewise, you do not have to be super fit like a fighter. If you have the body to climb steep hills, snowy glacier sections, and high-altitude places, that is enough. Prepare your body to carry around 15 kg of weight on steep terrains.

Best Time
Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing is a rigorous expedition. You have a mountain to climb and the whole Khumbu circuit to walk. Thus, doing this during the best and most favorable time becomes important.
The best time for this exciting journey is like every other trek or expedition around Nepal. Autumn and Spring are the two favorite seasons for this journey. As you know, the weather in the Himalayas is quite stable and friendly in these two windows. Therefore, you should plan this journey in the Autumn and Spring months.
Autumn(September-October) is a great time due to its good weather conditions. You will have low precipitation levels, bright sunny days, mild temperatures, and unobstructed mountain views. The journey becomes quite amazing under these conditions.
The same is the weather, more or less, in Spring(March-May). In fact, Spring is the best time to climb 8000 m+ peaks, including Mt Everest. You can guess whether it is good for this itinerary or not. You have excellent weather conditions during the walk.
On the other hand, you can plan and do EBC Trek with Island Peak in Winter(December- February) and even in Monsoon(June-August). But, the weather conditions are better than in the other two.
Monsoon has high precipitation levels, slippery trails, obstructed views, and snowfall. Hence, it is an off-time for the trek, and the trail remains much less crowded than at other times.
Similarly, Winter is the coldest time to be in the Himalayas. The temperature is extreme, and snowfall chances are also quite high. Only adventurous people plan during this season. Thus, you will only see a few climbers or trekkers during this season.

Altitude Sickness
AKA Acute Mountain Sickness, Altitude sickness is caused by exposure to low oxygen levels at high altitudes. When a traveler crosses 3000 meters altitude, the oxygen levels drop gradually. As a result, the traveler gets altitude sickness while trekking in the region if not taken precautions.
In that case, Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing is a high-elevation expedition. We have to reach up to 6160m(Island Peak). So there are chances of altitude sickness. Thus we have to take it seriously.
Its major symptoms are lack of appetite, vomiting, nausea, fatigue, weakness, headache, dizziness, insomnia, and shortness of breath. You must descend if these symptoms persist long and hard.
But, you can prevent the sickness by proper acclimatization. Running in the mountains by gaining enormous heights is a major cause. We need to slow our ascend by taking enough rest.
Likewise, we should keep ourselves hydrated all the time. The dehydrated bodies easily succumb to the sickness. We should also avoid alcohol consumption as it dehydrates us.
Always listen to your experienced guide and inform them about your situation. The signs can be reduced by consuming the necessary medications too. Follow what your expedition guide has to say. In this way, we can avoid altitude sickness.
Food, Accommodation, and Amenities
During the Everest Base Camp with Island Peak Climbing, we will eat local, Tibetan, Indian, and continental meals. There are good numbers of teahouses, lodges, bakeries, and restaurants along the trail. Thus, we can easily enjoy food while trekking.
While climbing, our kitchen staff will cook food in the tents. We will get limited but well-cooked food during those days. The common food options during the expedition are Dal Bhat, Noodles, Tibetan Bread, Dumplings, Sandwiches, Egg Omelettes, etc.
Regarding accommodation, we will stay in basic and clean tea houses while trekking. We normally will get twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms. There will be two beds, bedsheets, pillows, and blankets. We can ask for extra clothes if needed.
En route, we can find many tea houses that offer us a stay. These teahouses also provide WIFI and hot showers. The charging service is also available. We have to pay some extra for all these things.
A tent will be our accommodation for climbing days. There will be foam mattresses and sleeping bags to sleep inside tents. Our team will set up the tents when no tea houses are around, particularly in the mountains.
