Overview
Tilicho Lake at the height of 4949 m collects the glacial melt of the entire northern slopes of the Annapurna and the Thorong Peak and is claimed to be the highest lake in the world. The Lake is considered to be a holy as it is mentioned in the Hindu scripture Ramayana. Tilicho Lake Mesokanto Pass Trek (5099m.) is an attractive trekking adventure to this serene high altitude Lake situatedthe Manang District of Nepal.
Tilicho Lake Mesokanto Pass Trek is an ideal trek for the one looking to explore the cultural and natural treasures of the Annapurna region. The trail explores and celebrates diversity in every aspect. The trail takes the trekkers through a variety of terrain with various types of vegetation. Variety of wildlife such as rare white capped river chat, brown dipper, White-breasted Kingfisher, butterflies and Barking Deer can be spotted while trekking in the regionOn the other hands villages in the region are as diverse as its terrain. Trekkers will be visiting multi ethnic villages with a variety of cultures. Manang is a Tibetan village in the region following centuries old Tibetan culture. The main highlight of the trek, the serene Tilicho lake amidst of the snow capped Himalayas, is certain to leave you breathless with its beauty. The Tilicho Lake Mesokanta Pass trekking trail allows trekkers variety of experiences while being in the company of the glorious Himalayas.
The Tilicho Lake Mesokanta Pass Trekking starts from Besisahar and follows the Annapurna circuit trekking trail up to Manang, from where the trail will move towards the Tilicho Lake. The trail starts along the Marshyangdi River, with great views of Manaslu and Himal Chuli to the east. The trail will eventually lead the trekkers to the wonderful villages inhabited by a wide diversity of people from different ethnic groups, offering spectacular and majestic views of the white Himalayas. From Manang the trail goes into the main valley to the west passes through the Kanshar village and trek up to the Tilicho Lake. After relishing the turquoise high altitude lake amidst of mighty Himalayas, we have the option to pass the Thorung La and trek down to Muktinath or to cross a challenging Pass of Mesokanta to Jomsom. To cross Mesokanta pass is a challenging adventure and requires proper equipments including tented camps. Either way,our trek concludes in Jomsom and we take a short 35 minute flight back to Pokhara.

Itinerary
Namaste and Welcome to the beautiful Himalayan country Nepal. Upon our arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, we will be received by a representative from Nepal Eco Adventure. We will be helped with our transfer to the hotel. After the check in at the hotel,we are free stroll in the streets of Thamel, a tourist hub in Kathmandu or rest in the comfort of the hotel. Overnight Hotel in Kathmandu.
Today after breakfast we start a guided tour of the several historical and cultural attractions in Kathmandu. We visit the historic Kathmandu Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu Temple Pashupatinath, the Monkey temple Swayambhunath and the Buddhist Shrine Boudhanath. These landmarks are of great importance and are listed by UNESCO as the World Heritage Sites. In the evening a representative from Nepal Eco Adventure briefs us regarding our trek. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions regarding our upcoming adventure. Overnight in Kathmandu.
We begin our 8-9 hour long drive to Nagdi early in the morning. En route we get to enjoy the countryside of Nepal with its green hills, winding rivers, terraced farms and the snow capped mountains. Once you get to Besishar then change the bus and 1.5 hours drive to Nagdi. Overnight at lodge in Nagdi.
We start our day trekking through the Marshyangdi River bank all the way to Chamje.We follow the rugged trail to cross several small streams and a big waterfall on the way. We cross the Marsyangdi River on a suspension bridge and follow the river to the stone village of Jagat before ascending through the forest to Chamje. Overnight at a guesthouse in Chamje.
We start our trek from Chamje to Dharapani on a rocky trail following the Marsyandi river steadily uphill to Tal, the first village in the Manang district. The trail passes through barley, rice and potato fields and we cross several waterfalls even today. We traverse through the village of Kodo before reaching Dharapani which is one of the biggest villages in the Manang valley. Overnight in Dharapani.
We start our trek from Dharapani to Chame, the headquarter of Manang district. Along the way to Chame we come across a few steep forested ridges along with several landslides. As we reach the Chame, we will be greeted with remarkable views of Lamjung Himal, Annapurna II, and Annapurna IV. We also come across two small hot springs which is great to take a dip and relax after an exhausting day. Overnight in Chame.
We start our trek to Pisang along the river banks through Telekhu to Bharatang which is surrounded by apple orchards. Today we cross the Marshyandi river and walk through a steep and narrow valley to have our first view of the Paungda Danda rock face, a dramatic curved rock face rising 1500m from the river. We can appreciate excellent views of Annapurna II to the south and Pisang Peak to the northeast from here. We continue our descent to the Manang Valley floor enjoying the captivating landscape. The trail to Manang a steep ridge which offers good views of the Manang valley and Tilicho peak. As We descend past Manang’s airstrip at Hongde, the northeast face of Annapurna III rises majestically above us. We cross the Marsyandi River via a woodenbridge to reach a tiny village of Mungji. We pass through beautiful cultivated field to reach Bryga where lies the Bryga Monastery,the biggest monastery in the Manang District. As we reach Manang, the climate becomes colder and dryer. It is very important for our body to acclimatize while we travel to a higher altitude.An acclimatization at Manang will help the body adjust to the increasing altitude. In order to acclimatize, we keep ourselves busy with a short hike to either Bhojo Monastary or Gangapurna Lake. We can also hike to Vraga Village where we can visit the Himalayan Rescue Association, which will give us information about Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). Overnight in Manang.
We start our walk from Manang through the western gates and follow the path down to the river. We cross the Marsyandi river and continue on its southern side through coniferous forest. The walk from Manang to Khangsar follows a narrow trail. In Khangsar, we can relish spectacular views of the Khangsar Khola, Tilicho Peak and the grand barrier.
Although the route from Khangsar to Tilicho Base Camp isn’t physically strenuous, it could be exhausting as we have to walk on narrow, loose, scree, path prone to landslide. We go through the middle of the landslide prone area where we can see impressive rock formations along the trail. We reach Tilicho Base camp after a steep descent. Overnight in teahouse at Tilicho Base Camp.
The trek starts with a steep ascent and continues to hug the side of the mountain before reaching the lake. On our way we can see yaks and deer grazing in the pasture. As we reach the Tilicho lake we can see the Tilicho Lake, a large turquoise lake nestled at the foot of the north face of Tilicho Peak. The beauty of the scene is appreciated by many travelers from around the world.The lake holds great importance to the Hindus as the lake was mentioned in the holy text, the Ramayan. Overnight in a Tent.
We start early to cross the Mesokanta La Pass(5120m). It is very important to cross the pass early to avoid the strong wind during the afternoon. We can enjoy great views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs while crossing the pass. We descend to Kaisang to spend the night at Tent.
We start our trek from Kaisang to Jomsom. Our trail passes through the rhododendron and pine forest having panoramic views of the green hills and slopes.Jomsom is a small, beautiful town in the Mustang district with a backdrop of Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri. We will get ready for an early flight back to Pokhara. Overnight in Jomsom.
After breakfast, we will take an early morning flight to Pokhara. The scenic flight to Pokhara flies over the gorges of the Kaligandaki valley offers a great view of semi barren lands, mountains, hills to finally each the beautiful Pokhara. Pokhara is a beautiful city with lakes and amazing mountain views. Wander around the serene Phewa lake, or visit the Davis falls and see the World Peace Pagoda. Pokhara offers variety of activities and options for celebrating or relaxing after the exhausting trek. Overnight in Pokhara.
We will start early for a seven hour long drive back to Kathmandu. We will enjoy the beautiful countryside as we drive back to the capital. In Kathmandu after the check in at the hotel, we can stroll around Thamel for some souvenir shopping or simply rest in the comfort of our hotel.
It is time for us to end our wonderful journey in this beautiful country. We will be helped with our transfer to the airport for our departure to the next destination.
