Itinerary

Day 1
Travel to Pokhara (890m)
Max. Altitude: 890m, Pokhara

Travel Duration: 25 minutes flight/7-8 hours of road trip

Overnight at: 3-Star Hotel in Pokhara

Pokhara is the starting point of your Annapurna Base Camp trek. So, you will travel to Pokhara from Kathmandu. There are two options to get there. One is via a 30-minutes flight. And another is a 7-8 hours-long road trip. Tourist bus is included part of the package if you wish to take flight $125 USD extra per person. Both of them have their own specialty. You get to enjoy the astounding aerial view of mountains on one side. Whereas, you get to closely behold natural greenery in the other. While you decide, make sure you’ve all the necessary documents like passport, TIMS card, insurance, etc.
Day 2
Drive to Nayapul and trek to Hile (1430m)
Travel Duration: 1.5 hours of Cab ride & 2-3 hours of walk

Walking Distance: 9 km

Overnight at: Teahouse

You’ll wake up to a refreshing morning in Pokhara. You can have a stroll around the Fewa Lake, Bindabasini temple in the morning. Take your breakfast at the hotel. Afterward, you’ll be ready for the two-hour-long cab ride to Nayapul (1000m). You’ll start walk from Nayapul, so it’s your official starting point of the trek. Crossing the bridge, you’ll pass via Birethanti, at 1035m (also your checkpoint) before you reach Hile for the overnight.
Day 3
Trek to Ghorepani (2,840m)
Ghorepani Altitude: 2,840m

Walking Duration: 5-6 hours

Walking Distance: 10 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Upper Ghorepani

From Hile, you will continue your journey to Ulleri (2000m). The stretch from Hile to Uller is a challenging part as it’s a long & steep ascent. Also, Ulleri welcomes you with countless stone stairs so remember to take your steps gradually. Walking uphill, you’ll pass via villages like Banthanti. There are plenty of teahouses in the middle so there is no problem refilling tea & food. Upon reaching Ghorepani, you’ll have to recheck your permits.

Ghorepani has two village distributions as Lower Ghorepani and Upper Ghorepani. They are about 100-200m apart by stone upstairs. You’ll head to Upper Ghorepani as the views are better and it’d be easier for tomorrow.
Day 4
Hike up to Poonhill for sunrise and trek to Tadapani (2,610m).
Poonhill Altitude: 3210m

Tadapani Altitude: 2610m

Walking Duration: 5-6 hours

Walking Distance: 10 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Tadapani

You’ll wake up early this morning as you definitely don't want to miss the sunrise from Poon Hill. Poon Hill (3210m) is the highest point of the day. It’s the vantage from where the 360-degree panoramic Himalayan view is available. You can spot Mt.Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Himchuli, and more. After that, you’ll return to your teahouse, have breakfast, and head to Tadapani (2610m). The way in between welcomes you with another 3000m hill, scattered villages, colorful rhododendrons, and cascading waterfalls.
Day 5
Trek to Sinuwa (2,340m).
Sinuwa Altitude: 2340m

Walking Duration: 6-7 hours

Walking Distance: 9.5 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Sinuwa

Tadapani has the best morning view, so don’t miss waking up early and enjoy the view of Fishtail & Dhaulagiri. After breakfast, you’ll continue your journey toward green forests. The stretch is mostly decent for the beginning. Another steep ascent begins after you reach Chhomrong (2170m). On the way, you’ll also explore villages like Chuile, Kimrong Khola, Talung, and Ghurjung. The lavish culture of Gurung & Magar and the beautiful mountainous scenery will welcome you. Thereafter, you’ll head to Sinuwa with another hour-long walk from Chhomrong.
Day 6
Trek to Himalaya hotel (2,900m).
Himalaya Hotel Altitude: 2900m

Walking Duration: 6-7 hours

Walking Distance: 6 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Himalaya village

Leaving Sinuwa, you’ll continue walking on the forest filled with fern, oak, bamboo, and rhododendron. The woods start getting denser gradually and the paths could be a little dark as well. However, on your way, you’ll discover a range of birds, mammals, and flowering plants. Also, you pass via Bamboo (2300m), Dovan (2500m). This part of the trek is more relaxing, as there are waterfalls, rivers, and short ascents & descents.
Day 7
Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m).
Maximum Altitude: 4130m, Annapurna Base Camp

Walking Duration: 5-6 hours

Walking Distance: 10 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Annapurna Base Camp

Now, it’s time to head to the ultimate point of your trek. It’ll be one of the most interesting days of your trek as you pass via amazing destinations like Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m), Deurali (3200m). As you hike up, the trails get more beautiful. The green pastures, farmlands, waterfalls, and lovely scenery makes everything worthwhile. The best part is the epic mountain views from MBC. The glaciers flowing on the riverside are an amazing attraction as well. You’ll reach ABC from MBC after walking a few hours on a non-steep horizontal path.
Day 8
Trek to Bamboo (2,345m).
Bamboo Altitude: 2345m

Walking Duration: 6 hours

Walking Distance: 10 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Bamboo

Early in the morning, the refreshing views of mountains and breezy altitude will wake you up. You’ll then enjoy the lovely sunrise over the snow-capped Himalayan peaks. There is the sunrise point above the base camp, you can have a short hike up there. Along with the mesmerizing scenery, you can discover memorial stupas and prayer flags. The panoramic view of majestic peaks like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Fishtail, Himchuli is the best part. Undoubtedly, it’s going to be a heavenly moment in your life. After the exploration, you’ll return to your teahouse, have breakfast, and head back to Bamboo.
Day 9
Trek to Jhinu Danda (1,760m)
Jhinu Danda Altitude: 1760m

Walking Duration: 5-6 hours

Walking Distance: 6 km

Overnight at: Local lodge in Jhinu Danda

Leaving Bamboo, you’ll again retrace your steps upto Chhomrong. Passing the settlements you encountered before, you get to enjoy the route one more time. While you do that don’t forget to visit the places that you missed before. Following the route of Sinuwa-Chhomrong, you will head to Jhinu Danda. Jhinu Danda is famous for its therapeutic natural hot springs. Dip into the hot spring, forget your pain, and enjoy the lush environment around!
Day 10
Trek to Pothana (1990m)
Pothana Altitude: 1990m

Walking Duration: 6-7 hours

Walking Distance: 10.7 km

Overnight at: Teahouse in Pothana

Bidding farewell to Jhinu, you’ll cross the suspension bridge over the Modi Khola. Walking further, you’ll reach Landrung village (1680m). It’s another popular Gurung village full of forest ridges and farmlands around. It also provides an incredible view of the Annapurna & Dhaulagiri range. Thereafter, you’ll pass via Tokla and Bichkok Deurali. Descending an hour more, you’ll reach Pothaha, which has a number of good teahouses.
Day 11
Trek down to Phedi (1,500m) and back to Pokhara.
Phedi Altitude: 1500m

Walking Duration: 3 hours

Overnight at: 3-star hotel in Pokhara

After Pothana, your trek will lead you to your next destination, Phedi. Phedi, at 1500m, is a scarce settlement but has the most welcoming locals. You’ll get there after walking for about three hours. The locals are mostly of Gurung and Magar ethnicity who will welcome you with their special delicacies. After some rest, you’ll hop in a private jeep and make your way to Pokhara. You can have a relaxing retreat around the Lakeside there and enjoy its nightlife.
Day 12
Drive back to kathmandu.
Here comes the final day of your trek. You have the same two options to return to Kathmandu. The best option is to take a flight so that you get to explore Pokhara more. Tourist bus is included on the package. If you like to upgrade to flight that cost $125 USD extra per person. Also, don’t forget to buy souvenirs like paintings, artifacts, unique ornaments, etc. Likewise, after you reach Kathmandu, you can either take a rest or go on sightseeing.

Which is the best season to trek to Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September-November) are the two best seasons to have the best experience at the ABC trek. However, the trek is fully feasible at any time of year.

What type of food and accommodation will we get in the trekking region?

You’ll get the local type of food including western foods on the route. The food will be fresh and hygienic local ‘Dal Bhat’. Whereas, for accommodation, you will be staying in a teahouse with a comfortable room and twin sharing beds. However, there are a few more options, especially at the lower altitude areas.

Do I need a guide or porter for this trek?

We strongly believe that you do need a guide for this trek. They know the place better and will also provide you with valuable information about the region. Regarding the porter, it’ll be your choice. But, since your backpack will be heavy, hiring a porter will be a good idea.

What are the necessary documents that I need to carry?

You need to have your passport, copies of your photos, documents of travel insurance, and visa. With all these documents, we’ll manage your permits so that you remain out of all the hassles.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes, of course! It covers all sorts of risks like medication and emergency mountain evacuation. Since you will be walking over 3000m, it’s necessary to cover such risks for safe & sound travel.

What is the method of payment of the trekking agency?

The process is simple. For booking the trip, you will need to pay 25% deposit in advance for its confirmation. Later, when you arrive to Kathmandu remaining balance you can pay cash or card.

What is Altitude Mountain Sickness (AMS)?

Altitude Mountain Sickness is a harmful effect of getting at high altitude. It’s due to less quantity of oxygen at higher elevations i.e. more than 3000m above sea level. Its common symptoms include headache, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, sleeplessness, etc.

Are there chances of getting altitude sickness on an ABC trek?

In the ABC trek, there is less chance of getting altitude sickness. Because most of the days you’ll be trekking below the altitude of 3000m. But, you shouldn’t ignore any of the symptoms, if you get any. Less likely someone suffer from altitude sickness on the Annapurna Base camp trek as this trek you spend only 2 nights above 3000m.

I am a beginner. Can I opt for this trek?

Surely, you can! Annapurna Base Camp is a moderate trek that doesn’t need any technical training. So, even if you're a beginner, you can go for it. Just remember to prepare well, pack enough, and take necessary precautions while trekking.

Do I get hot showers and internet facilities in the Annapurna Trekking region?

Yes, you will. Almost all the teahouses and lodges provide good internet and hot showers. But, mind that, the cost for them can vary with the increasing altitudes.

How fit should I be for the Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

You need to have a basic level of fitness for trekking in Annapurna Base Camp trek. It doesn’t require any training or experience but for safety, you can do exercises to strengthen your core, legs, and endurance.

What does Teahouse trekking for Annapurna Base Camp trek look like?

Normally, the teahouse trekking provides you multiple comfy rooms, a common hall, and a kitchen. Also, there will be a bathroom and shower room, which you’ll have to share with fellow trekkers.

How much should I tip my guide or porter?

Best Time to Visit Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The best part about the Annapurna Base Camp trek is its year-round availability. Yes! You can go for this trek anytime around the year. But amongst the four seasons, Spring (March-May) and Autumn (September-November) are the main trekking season in the Annapurna region.

Spring Season: Spring is an ideal time for the ABC trek as the days are warm with moderate temperature. There are rare chances of rain and other weather disturbances. The best part is the natural serenity that only appears in springs. The whole region is colorful with blooming buds of rhododendrons, orchids, and many wildflowers.

In every trail, there is a natural floral decoration that makes your journey more enjoyable. Due to the moderate weather, the faunal environment is stable. Thus, you can spot migratory birds, butterflies, and other rare species too. If you could make it to ABC in spring, the journey will be extra mesmerizing.

Autumn Season: Likewise, for the Autumn season, it’s the best time to spot crispy scenery. The skies are clear and the visibility of the mountains is at its peak. First, let’s talk about accommodation. Because the Annapurna Base Camp trek is a popular trek, you’ll find good places for an overnight stay. There are plenty of standard teahouses and lodges on the trek.

i) Teahouse Accommodation: The teahouse accommodation is quite popular and the best choice. Basically, their accommodation service is basic. Your room will have a twin-sharing wooden bed with a mattress, pillow, and blanket. About extra facilities, some of them also provide hot & cold shower service, electric heater, attached bathroom, etc. But, the services may vary as the altitude increases. You may have to use squat toilets and even use cold tap water.

ii) Camping Accommodation: This type of accommodation is mainly done by the climbers planning to go for the Annapurna expedition. Here, you'll stay in the tent and carry all the stuff throughout the route. You will need a cooking staff and porter crew for different jobs. Thus, it’s a kind of hassle and only feasible in places where there are no teahouses or lodges. However, if you wish for such an adventure, we can arrange camping accommodation in ABC as well.

iii) Hotel/Lodge Accommodation: There are a few luxurious hotels & lodges en route to Annapurna Base Camp. If you have a budget to match it, then you can go for it. You will be getting the best services available for accommodation in deluxe hotels. Food in ABC Trek
ABC trek is the best trek to explore local delicacies of Nepal i.e Dal Bhat (rice pudding with pulses) and seasonal vegetables. You will have it for your lunch and dinner every day whilst on the trek. The options for a non-veg set of Dal Bhat are available as well. Because this set has all kinds of nutrients, there is a famous saying ‘Dal Bhat = Unlimited Power

Besides the dal bhat, you can find some western food options in some teahouses like pizza, spaghetti, noodles, eggs & bread, boiled potatoes with chili sauce, meat stew, etc. Likewise, you can try local dried meats as well. The best option is to go with Dal Bhat but if you want to try other varieties, it’s available as well.

The meals we include in our package are Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner. Breakfast will be ready by 8 am and you will have options like Eggs (fried/boiled), omelets with toast, pancakes, muesli, noodles, muesli, porridge, tea, coffee, etc.

Likewise, the options for lunch/dinner includes dal bhat, vegetable soup, curry w/rice, macaroni, spring rolls, momo, pizza, fried potatoes, chips, steaks, lasagna, etc

Permits Required for Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

Any trekkers will need trekking permits to trek in all the trekking regions. Such permits are issued by the Government of Nepal and distributed by associated bodies. And the type of permit will depend on the trekking area.

Annapurna Base Camp trek lies within the Annapurna Conservation Area. So, you will need two permits and fees to trek in this region. One is an ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Project) permit and a TIMS card. ACAP is for trekking in the conservation area while TIMS is for ensuring safety, security, and avoiding illegal trekking.

You can easily obtain trekking permits at Nepal Tourism Board at Kathmandu. Make sure you’ve all the necessary documents like the original passport and its copies, visa copies, passport size photos, and cash for the permit fees.

The permits for Annapurna Base Camp are available on the tourism board of Pokhara too. The office is unavailable on Saturday and local holidays. It’s a thing to remember if you’re arranging the permits by yourself.

For visa: You can obtain a visa easily upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. You will need two copies of your passport size photos. The cost of the tourist visa with Multiple Entries for 30 days is USD 50 or equivalent foreign currency. Similarly, a tourist visa with Multiple Entries for 90 days costs USD 125.

How Difficult is Annapurna Base Camp Trek?

Annapurna Base Camp is the most popular trek in Nepal after the Everest Base Camp trek. It sees thousands of trekkers every year. And one of the reasons for its popularity is its moderate grade. Yes, even a novice trekker with average physical fitness can opt for this thrilling adventure.

In the whole trek, you’ll cover a total distance of about 85 km in 10 days of the trek. So, on average, you’ll walk about 8.5 kilometers per day. The trails are however full of steep ascents and descents. Also, it contains stone stairs on most of the stretches.

Regarding the altitude, the trek is safer. You’ll spend most of your days in places with less than 3000 meters of elevation. The trail rises over 3000m at two points i.e Annapurna Base Camp (4130m) and Poon Hill (3120m). With that said, we can’t confirm that there aren’t any chances of altitude sickness. You’ve to be well prepared and take the necessary precautions.

Hence, anyone with normal hiking/trekking experience can go for ABC trek. It doesn't require any technical preparation or climbing gears. The trails can be challenging at times for you can handle that with the gears listed below.

Now, as we've already mentioned, this trek doesn’t require any specific training. But, just to be on the safe side, you can practice for physical activities like hiking, basic gym training. Focus on strengthening your core, legs, back, and balance. You can go with a treadmill and stair machine for it. Also, you can do several sets of lunges and squats for building leg muscles.

Also, while you go for a hike, carry backpacks of measurable weights. If feasible, choose the places where you have to ascend and descend on significant heights. It will prepare you to adapt to increasing altitudes during the trek. Also, it will help to develop endurance and break difficulties over time.

Likewise, sound mental health is an important factor. If you’re heading to such altitudes for the first time, it’s understandable that you might get nervous. So, try to be calm and careful throughout the way. If you feel any discomfort, share that with your teammates, and they will take the necessary actions. For stronger mental health, yoga or meditation are the proven ways that’ll help you.

Hence, it’s always best to start early and give yourself enough time to prepare. Having said that, make sure you don’t push yourself over the limit. Make sure your body isn’t drained. Take proper rest, stay fresh, you don’t want to show up as a tired person on the trek.

Lastly, whilst you follow all these routines, remember to watch your nutrition. Since you’re burning your calories, you will need more proteins. Try to balance that with other nutrients that will make you healthy and strengthen your muscles.

  • It’s always safer to never go on a trek alone, especially if it’s your first time. If you hire us, you will travel with experienced guides and porters.
  • Letting your loved ones know where you’re going is important. You can even share the details of your family with us as well.
  • Carry all the necessary documents with you like passport and its copies, photographs, copies of travel insurance, your permit cards, etc
  • Don’t try to risk your life to save money. Reducing trek durations to reduce budgets or by any other means may impose a serious threat on your life.
  • Be prepared for one or two extra days of travel. Yes, sometimes due to climatic conditions, things may not go as planned. So, having the extra travel days will be a safer side.

Tips to Follow During the Trek

  • It’s your trek, your adventure, so don’t take it as any sort of race. If traveling alone, never try to keep up with other trekkers. Whereas, if in a group, try to walk together and at a normal pace.
  • Never ignore it if you’re having some troubles like headaches or dizziness. Share your trouble with your guide immediately. Sometimes taking rest for a night or two will help. Else, you will have to descend to lower altitudes.
  • Don’t ever lead your guide or porter or wander off to distant places. If you want some alone time, do inform your fellow members.
  • Hiring a guide is a must. You won’t have to struggle to know about places and to deal with locals. If you need help with the baggage, hiring a guide is a good idea too.
  • Drink plenty of water while walking. Staying hydrated will also help to adapt to the changing altitudes.
  • Along with water, you can carry instant energy-providing bars or snacks. They are saviors for treks like this!
  • Wear comfortable & properly broken-in trekking shoes. You don’t want any blisters while traveling.
  • Having a minimal yet sufficient packing list will help to reduce loads. Also, make sure the trekking gears you carry are reliable.
  • Be mindful that you’re trekking at one of the rural places. There, you may not get whatever you wish for. So, you need to adapt yourself socially too.
  • Be respectful to everyone, the locals are super friendly and welcoming. Being rude to anybody won’t be good morally and it may affect your whole trip too.

Flight and Travel Information For ABC Trek

Pokhara is the starting point for trekking in the Annapurna region. And you can either take a flight or private vehicle to get there. The flight will take about half an hour whereas the road travel will be 7-8 hours.

Both of the travel options have their own benefits. You will be enjoying the mesmerizing aerial view from the flight. Similarly, you’ll encounter beautiful scenery on the road trip. After you decide what you choose, we’ll plan the tour accordingly.
