Getting a visa to enter Nepal is much easier than obtaining a visa in other countries. You need to follow a few regulations and the visa is in your hand. Depending on the purpose of your visit, you get a different category of visa in Nepal.
You can get Tourists Visa in two ways:
- You can apply for the visa at the Nepalese Diplomatic Missions located at your home country. If you attain visa this way, you must travel Nepal within 6 months of the date of visa issued date.
OR,
- You can obtain the “Visa on Arrival” issued by the Immigration Office Of Nepal under the TIA Department of Immigration. This is the visa you collect at the Tribhuvan International Airport on your arrival. The process is quick and much simple. You do not need to follow hectic procedures.
But, if you are traveling Nepal in the peak seasons, you may have to stand in queue for some minutes to obtain the visa. Otherwise, you can collect it in a few minutes in the off-season.
Every tourist visiting Nepal gets a Tourist Visa on arrival. It is later changed into different categories based on the purpose of your visit.
To acquire a visa on arrival, you need to follow a few steps:
1. Fill in the arrival card
2. Fill in Online “Tourist Visa” form
You can fill it before arrival after visiting the official website of the Department of Immigration. In this case, you will get a submission receipt with a barcode which you need to print and submit at the airport after arrival. This receipt remains valid from the first 15 days of form submission. But, if you fail to arrive within the 15 days, you need to re-fill it at the airport.
Or, you can fill the Visa form at the Airport using the Kiosk machines on your arrival.
3. After filling the Visa form, you need to pay the charge of Visa at the bank (it is inside the Airport premise) according to your visa requirement. The cost of Visa differs according to the number of days you are planning to stay in Nepal.
The cost differences of Visa on Arrival is as follows:
- 15 days- 25 USD
- 30 days- 40 USD
- 90 days- 100 USD
4. Get the receipt
5. Submit your online form, payment receipt, and passport. And, your Tourist Visa for Nepal is in your hands.
However, there are a few cases where you do not need to pay for Visa in Nepal. There’s a provision of free visa for:
- Children below 10 years
- SAARC nationals ( except Afghanistan) for first 30 days of their arrival.
- Free visa for NRN cardholder issued by MoFA/ Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad
- Chinese Nationals
- Officials from China, Brazil, Russia, and Thailand (because of the reciprocal visa waiver agreement)
If you wish to spend few more days in Nepal you need to extend your Visa. The process is as simple as attaining the visa. To extend your visa you can contact the Department of Immigration. For extending tourist visa you can even get the facility at the Immigration Office, Pokhara.
But to extend other visas, you need to consult the Department of Immigration, Kathmandu.
