Buddhist Journey

This 8 days Buddhist Journey is a spiritual journey through several sites of Kathmandu valley and Lumbini. Nepal is the place where Buddhism originated and later became a major world religion. This religion is based on the teachings of Siddhartha Gautam who was born as a prince of the ancient Kapilavastu which is now in Lumbini, Nepal. Buddhism in Nepal believed to be dated from the birth of Buddha himself visit the land visited by Bodhisattvas and previous Buddhas.

In Nepal, religion is a complex intermingling of traditions, festivals, faiths and doctrines that have permeated every strata of Nepalese Society in such a way as to become the very heartbeat of the nation. Nepal is a beautiful tapestry formed by the interweaving of Hinduism, Buddhism and other beliefs.

Lumbini was the divine forest and the ideal place for Prince Siddhartha’s birth. While passing Lumbini, his mother Queen Mayadevi stopped her journey and during the walk through the forest gave birth to the Prince. Lumbini is a very important Buddhist site. Lord Buddha himself in his Mahaparinirvana Sutta mentioned Lumbini as one of the 4 prominent places for Buddhist Pilgrimage for everyone who’s looking for the ultimate liberation. You will get to see the place where Lord Buddha – the paver of the path to peace and calming contemplation – was born. It is a conducive place to peaceful contemplation and meditation.

You will see several sites in Kathmandu and around : Buddhanath, Swayambhunath, Pharping & Kopan Monasteries and Namo Buddha.

Buddhanath is one of the 10 sites in Nepal inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. It is also one of the main Buddhist shrines in the Kathmandu region of Nepal. Its 14th century stupa dominating the horizon is one of the largest in the world.

Swayambhunath is one of the oldest and holiest Buddhist sites in Kathmandu. According to Swayambhu Purana, the entire valley was formerly occupied by a huge lake, in which a lotus grew. The valley was then called Swayambhu, meaning “self-created.” The name comes from an eternal self-generated flame (svyaṃbhu) on which was later built a stupa.

Typical Newar town, Pharping is a religious center located at the top of a hill overlooking Kirtipur southwest of Kathmandu. It is known for its sacred site of Yangleshö, where Guru Padmasambhava attained the level of a Mahamudra vidyadhara.

Kopan Monastery is a monastery of Tibetan Buddhism that became famous for teaching Buddhism to Western foreign visitors. Kopan is today composed of two separate institutions: the monastery itself, on Kopan Hill, and the Khachoe Ghakyi Ling Convent.

The Namo Buddha is a magnificent stupa, located on top of a hill. You will enjoy the spirituality of the place, admire the splendid view as well as the flags of prayers waved by the wind in front of the Himalayas.
