Everest Base Camp Trek Detailed Itinerary
Day01: Fly to Lukla and Trek to Phakding
Altitude: 2610 m
Travel Hours: 4 hours
The first day of this 12-day long adventure kicks off after you leave Kathmandu. You’ll then fly to a small yet charming town where it all begins: Lukla. After a scenic 30 minute flight, you’ll be greeted by the fresh air, the thrill that you’re actually going to be doing this, and your porter. Next comes breakfast and a little while after you’re done with it, you’ll find yourself descending towards your stopover of the day, Phakding. 3-4 hours worth of hike away, the village is actually at a lower altitude than Lukla, perfect for the first-day hike of a 12-day trek. You’ll probably feel those 3-4 hours breezing past your day. Because, there will be so much to take in all around you, so much to be amazed by, and so much to appreciate.
After overcoming a day consisting of a probably bumpy flight from the bustling city to a nestled town, while hiking your way to another village you’ll encounter your first suspension bridges, glimpses of some majestic peaks, and mani stones. You’ll surely get your well-deserved and much-needed sleep at night.
Day02: Phakding to Namche Bazaar
Altitude: 3445 m
Travel Hours: 6 hours
The first ascent towards your ultimate destination begins on Day 2. One of the longest treks of the trip, you’ll have to hike through the Valley of the Dudh Koshi River up to the famous town of the Himalayas, Namche Bazaar. That’d be nearly 900m worth of gain in elevation.
En route you’ll come across two long suspension bridges above the sparkling, white, Dudh Koshi river, relentlessly flowing in her own intertwined course, until you’ll need to stop by the gateway of the Sagarmatha National Park.
After getting your permits validated, the uphill course continues itself. After crossing two more suspension bridges, the final bridge hangs at a whopping 300m above the river. Then you’ll find yourself passing the village of Jorsale. If the weather is in your favor, you’ll see a beautiful view of the majestic Everest itself, in all its glory. A steep stretch of trail to sweat over, and behold; Namche Bazaar, where you’ll crash in for the night.
Day03: Acclimatization in Namche Bazaar
Altitude: 3445m
Travel Hours: 5 hours
Acclimatization is an important part while hiking. It helps you to proceed further and avoid altitude sickness. But it won’t be a complete rest day, you will take small hikes and explore the Bazaar area. A short hike to Khunde and Khumjung is just as refreshing. Khunde is a small village, a perfect one glowing in the backdrop the mountain ranges. You will like it here.
The panoramic views of the Everest, Ama Dablam, Lhotse, and many other mountain vistas that surround you will definitely make you feel welcomed.
After breakfast, you will take a steep one hour climb to Syangboche airstrip( 3790m). From here, you will pass through numerous chortens, and towards Khunde and then to Khumjung following the east trail. After a small tour, you will descend back to Namche where you will rest and enjoy the local culture. Namche is the town at the highest altitude. You can find bakeries, internet, and much facilities that you might not get here on.
Day04: Namche Bazaar to Tengboche
Altitude: 3860m
Travel Hours: 5 hours
With small ups and downs, tea shops at Kenjoma the route to Tengboche joins the trail from Khumjung. Collection of mani stones, spectacular views of the Everest, Ama Dablam, and the prayer flags that flutter with the wind; all this will energize you. You will pass through a small settlement of Sanasa, from here you will head towards Phunkithanga (3250m). Now, from here be prepared for a steep hike. From here, you will reach Tengboche at 3870m from where you will witness the most panoramic view of the spectacular mountains, Tawachee (6542m), Lhotse (8501m), Amadablam, Kantega, Kwangde (6187m), Everest, Nuptse, and Thamserku.
After a fulfilling day, you will rest at Tengboche.
Day05: Trek to Dingboche
Altitude: 4360m
Travel Hours: 4 hours
The trek starts after breakfast. You will start your trek descending through a mystical forest to finally cross the Imja Khola. You will pass through a village, Pangboche and continue the route unless you reach Dingboche. You won’t miss out on Chortens and mani walls. Also, you will get a good glimpse of the Ama-Dablam.
Day06: Acclimatization in Dingboche
Altitude: 4360m
Travel Hours: 4-5 hours
Yet another day to acclimatize. Today you will rest and get adjust to the increasing altitude. This way you can be well prepared for the increasing altitude. Your body will need to adjust to the changing altitude so it can function normally.
Again, you won’t be sleeping the entire day, you will take shorter treks to the neighboring villages, where you can explore the culture and enjoy the local savory. You can also see the peaks, Mt Lhotse, Mt Makalu, and Mt Cho Yu. The trek to Chhukung is a refreshing one. This short trek is one of the highlights of this trek. The views of the mountains on either side are spectacular.
You will finally return back to Dingboche where you will rest for the night.
Day07: Trek to Lobuche
Altitude: 4930m
Travel Hours: 5 hours
After about 1.5 hours trek in the morning, you will reach Thugla (4600m). Here you will have your lunch and prepare yourself for another hour and a half long steep trek. This will definitely take you even closer to the mountains. You will see Mt. Pumori and Mt. Nuptse closely. During the trek, you will also come across a small wooden bridge before you reach Thugla. The Himalayan Rescue Association is also stationed here and will provide you necessary treatments. We will rest for the night at Lobuche.
Day08: Trek to Gorak Shep and Everest base camp
Altitude: 5160m, 5360m
Travel Hours: 7 hours
Today is yet another day when you will be doing a lot of trekking. You will take a 2-hour hike to Gorak Shep early in the morning. As the day goes by the trek gets more challenging. But, the towering mountain vistas will make it up to you. You can actually see why you are willing to work so hard. Shortly after you get to the morine, the trek gets better and a bit comfortable. At 5160m, you will reach a village Gorak Shep, a settlement at the high altitude.
After lunch, you will then be heading towards the ultimate destination of the trek, the Everest Base Camp. After walking along the ridge of the Khumbu Glacier for about 1.5 hours, you will reach EBC at 5360m.
The base camp is your paradise, talk to the fellow climbers, share your experiences, take pictures, and enjoy the accomplishment. We will head back to Gorak Shep for the night.
Day09: Trek to Kalapathar & back to Pheriche
Altitude: 5545m, 4280m.
Travel Hours: 7 hours
Kalapathar is one of the most desired trekking destinations for many tourists including the locals. Kala Patthar is famous for providing spectacular and the most beautiful photographs of the Everest. The most popular photographs of this world famous mountain are from Kalapathar. Walk to this place is only about 2 hours. You will be surrounded by the beauty of the mountain.
You will descend back to Gorak Shep, take rest and lunch break here in the afternoon, and finally head back to Pheriche. After 6-7 hours of descending, you will rest at Pheriche.
Day 10: Trek to Namche Bazaar.
Travel Hours: 6 hours
After breakfast, like every other day, you will prepare yourself to leave Pheriche. From Pheriche to Debuche and then an hour climb to Tengboche once again. You will again descend to Phunkithanga (3200m) and finally, hike towards Namche. After days of hard work and after a feeling of accomplishment, we will enjoy at Namche. After days of adjusting, enjoy the variety of food at Namche. Because this is a transit point, it is a settlement that has prepared to adjust to the growing number of tourists. Which is why it is quite facilitated.

Day 11: Trek back to Lukla
Travel Hours: 8 hours
After about 7 hours of downhill from Namche, you will exit the Sagarmatha National Park today. You will head back to Lukla and take time to rest and rejuvenate. Time to gather all your experiences. After all, it’s only stories that live, nothing else does. And something that you have experiences becomes stories for others while they are memories for you.

Day 12: Fly to Kathmandu from Lukla and transfer to your Hotel.
Travel Hours: 1hours
You will fly back to Kathmandu early in the morning and then will be transferred to your hotel. The sight side will give you a final view of the mountains.
