Manaslu Trek Detailed Itinerary

Mt Manaslu is situated on the borders of Nepal and Tibet. Manaslu Trek is one of the most challenging and well-known trails in Nepal. It provides an amazing view of some of the highest mountain peaks in the world.

The trekking route of Manaslu offers you an immense opportunity to experience the breathtaking views of the Himalayas stretching beyond the horizon, high-altitude glacial lakes, scenic waterfalls and enthralling floras and faunas.

On the trail, you will get a chance to witness the magnificent view of Mt Manaslu (8163m), the eight tallest mountain in the world. This trekking route also provides enthralling views of other highest mountains in the world such as HimalChuli (7893m), Annapurna Range, Shringi (7187m), Ngadi Chuli (7871m) and Ganesh Himal.

Manaslu Trek begins from Kathmandu leading to Arughat via Dhading Besi where you can enjoy the sight of the lush hills, green expanse, and strong flowing rivers. On the following day, the trek begins from Arughat to Machhakhola. Next day, after crossing the Budhi Gandaki River, we will be arriving at Jagat.

From there, we will reach Deng after passing through bamboo forests.Trekking a bit further, we will be arriving at Namrung village. Namrung is the best viewpoint for Ganesh Himal as well as Mt. Himal Chuli.

From there, we will be arriving at the highest village in Budhi Gandaki Valley, the Samagaon village. In this village, we will acclimatize and continue our trek to Samdo. From Samdo, we will move to Dharmasala.

Larke La pass (5,100m) is the core part of the Manaslu Trek. From there, we can enjoy the spectacular views of Himlung, Cheo, Kanggru and Annapurna. After the long walk, we will finally arrive at Bhimthang and Gho.

After crossing the bridge over Dudh Khola, we will make our way towards Dharapani and drive back to Besisahar. From there,  we will drive back to Kathmandu to your respective guest house.

During the trekking period, you will get enough time for proper acclimatization. Manaslu Trek involves walking on different mountain trails at altitudes above 3000m/10,000ft. Thus, you will need to be fit.

Detail Itinerary for 17 Days

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu

After your arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be received by a representative of the Nepal Eco Adventure. You will then be escorted to your hotel. After reaching the hotel, you can either go rest or sightsee around a famous place in Kathmandu, Thamel.

Here you can enjoy Nepali cuisine in one of the many restaurants. At the end of the day, you will also be briefed about the entire trek.

Day 02: Sightseeing tour in Kathmandu

On the second day, we will visit several world heritage sites in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, and Patan which includes the Kathmandu Durbar Square, Bhaktapur Durbar Square and Patan Durbar Square. It will be followed by a visit to Swayambhunath, a holy site, which also offers a majestic view of Kathmandu city. Then we will visit the Pashupatinath temple which lies on the bank of Bagmati River 5km east of Kathmandu city.

And finally, we will visit the famous Buddhist Chaitya ‘Boudhanath’. At the end of the day, you can make final preparations for the Manaslu Trek. You can also obtain relevant and important documents which are required for your journey.

Day 03: Drive Kathmandu to SotiKhola (710m) (7-8 hours)

After the early breakfast, we drive from Kathmandu to Arughat, and then to Sotikhola. In the first few hours, we will reach Dhading Besi. From there, we will drive to Arughat where the roads are a little rough.

Throughout the drive, we will be able to view beautiful mountains such as Mt. Manaslu and Ganesh Himal range. The next few hours drive will take us to Sotikhola where we will spend our night.

Day 04: Trek to Machhakhola (870m) (6-7 hours)

On the fourth day, we will cross SotiKhola with the fresh view of waterfalls and rivers. After that, we will walk through the dense Sal forest, to reach a ridge above the huge rapids of the Budhi Gandaki River. After passing some of the rocky trails, we will reach Khursane.

Then we will trek down to the rice fields to Lapubesi, which is a Gurung Village. After a few hours walk through the sandy river beds of Budhi Gandaki, we trek down to Naulikhola crossing a suspension bridge. We will then reach Maccha Khola village where we will spend the night at a tea house.

Day 05: Trek to Jagat (1340m)

The fifth-day trail has some ups and downs which will make our trail challenging to some extent. From MachaaKhola, we will cross the TharoKhola and reach Khorlabesi. Khorlabesi is another small yet beautiful Gurung village.

After another steep climb, we will reach Tato Pani, a hot-spring site where we will be spending some time to enjoy the natural sauna. Then we will climb over a ridge, crossing the Budhi Gandaki River through the suspension bridge and climb up the staircase and a ridge to finally reach Doban. After crossing another suspension bridge, we climb another stone staircase, go down to the river and climb the stairs again to reach Thado Bharyang.

Then we will cross the west bank of Budhi Gandaki River, climb over the ridge and walk along the river to reach Jagat village. It is the entry checkpoint of the Manaslu Conservation Area. We will stay here for a night.

Day 06: Trek to Deng (1860m)

Our sixth day’s trail will start with a climb over a ridge towards Sirdibas. We continue to Ghatta Khola and walk through a long suspension bridge to reach Phillim. Philim is another large Gurung settlement village.

As we head north across the terrace fields to Ekle Bhatti, we will enter a steep, deserted gorge. Then we descend down to the grassy land slopes with tall pine trees and cross the Budhi Gandaki bridge. As we trek along the west bank, we will pass through bamboo forests.

We will then reach the Deng Khola. After crossing the river, we reach the tiny Deng village. We spend our night in the village.

Day 07: Trek to Namrung (2630m)

As we follow the trail upstream of Deng river, we continue our trek further with more steep climbs and winding forests. We will pass a route with Mani walls to reach Ghap. From Ghap, we will take the route through the Pork village which is an amazing viewpoint for Siring Himal.

We cross the Budhi Gandaki a few times and follow through a forest that has a variety of birds and animal including Danphe, Nepal’s national bird as well as a tribe of gray Langur monkey. We will also be walking through deep bamboo forests to reach Namrung village where we will spend our night.

Day 08: Trek to Lho (3180m)

On the eighth day, after crossing Budhi Gandaki, we trek through the forest, passing through a stone arch and reach to Lhi. Lhi is a village well known for its chortens and barley terraces. After crossing the side valley of Simnag, we pass through Sho and then reach Lho.

Lho is a big village with a monastery. There,  we will get a chance to visit the local monastery and explore the Tibetan culture. We stay in Lho village for the night.

Day 09: Trek to Samagaun (3500m)

On our ninth day, we will get plenty of opportunities to enjoy the grand view of many mountains. After passing through Shyala village, we go down to the river that originates from the glacier of Pungyen. We will pass through many chortens and monasteries.

After crossing the ridge we will reach the fields of Samagaon where we stay for a night.

Day 10: Acclimatizing day at Samagaun

On the tenth day of the trek, we will get a chance to acclimatize to the increasing altitude. But we will not be staying idle. We will explore the village,  observe the lifestyles of the locals and experience their culture.

We will climb the ridge to Pungyen Monastery which is about two and half hours’ hike. We will visit Birendra Tal which is a glacial lake at 3,450m. After that, we will return to our respective tea house and spend a night there.

Day 11:  Trek to Samdo (3860m)

The eleventh day’s trek is more interesting and pleasant. We will cross the suspension bridge which will lead us to the juniper and birch forests. We will continue forward crossing another bridge and climbing up across the Budhi Gandaki River.

We will get an amazing view of the mountains on the way, especially Manaslu as we reach Samdo. Samdo is a Tibetan refugee village. We will stay at Samdo for a night.

Day 12: Trek to Dharamasala (4480m)

We will start our day crossing the wooden bridge over the Budhi Gandaki river. On the route, we will notice the Mani walls and prayer flags, which signifies the closeness of Larkya La Pass. After crossing a few streams, we will observe the magnificent view of Larkya Glacier.

We will continue our way upwards to reach the stone guest house known as Dharmasala or Larkya La Phedi. The short trek gives us plenty of time to acclimatize and relax.

Day 13: Cross the Larke pass (5213m) trek down to Bhimtang (3720m)

On Day 13, we will cross the Larkya La which is the highest point on Manaslu trek situated at 5,213m. From there, we can witness the views of grand mountains such as Humlung Himal, Cheo Himal Kang Guru, and the great Annapurna II. As we continue, our trail takes us to the top of the moraine as we head towards the west.

From there, we further cross the moraine and climb down to another grassy moraine. As we come down, the trail becomes easier to walk. Then, we reach Bhimthang and stay there for the night.

Day 14: Bhimtang to Tilije (2300m)

After enjoying the challenging trek, we continue our way to Dudh Koshi river. We will cross the wooden bridge and then walk through a deep pine forest. In the forest, we can see a variety of rhododendron flowers in different colors.

Also, above the Marsyangdi valley, we can see the peak of the Lamjung mountain. After a walk at a river bank, we will arrive at Gho and continue our short walk towards Tilije. Tilije is another Gurung village and is very famous for brandy.

Day 15: Trek to Dharapani and drive to Beshishar (760m)

On this day, we pass through a beautiful village and then cross a bridge over  DudhKoshi river. We move past an arch and Mani walls to get to the Thonje village. After passing through several police checkpoints, we make our way to Dharapani from where we enter the Annapurna circuit section.

We will leave from Dharapani to Besishar on a local jeep or a bus. The rise will take us approximately 4-5 hours. We will spend our last night of the trek at Besishar.

Day 16: Drive back to Kathmandu from Besishar

On this day, our drive will be scenic as we will pass by many villages. As we head west on the Prithvi Highway, we will get to see Marsyangdi river meeting Trishuli river on its course. On the way, we will also get a chance to view various sceneries such as rice fields, terraced farms, flowing rivers and mountains.

After a few hours of a drive, we will reach Kathmandu. We will spend the night at our respective guesthouses.

Day 17: Final transfer to airport for your flight to home

On your last day of the trip, we will drop you off at the Tribhuvan International Airport.

The above itinerary is a guideline which we provide you in general. This is standard pattern of a tea house trekking; this trek can be modified as camping trekking as well.
